The company does not reveal how do they differentiate between residential and business user. However if they find any residential user using this service for business purpose they will charge $100.00 as a administrative fee and instead of $14.99, you will be charged the difference $44.99 for the period you have used the service. It means if you have used for 6 months and the company recognizes you as business customer, you may end up paying more than $350. It makes it quite risky. Moreover they also reserve the right to block service for activations from IP addresses outside of the territorial United States.

    1. not sure about safe. but customer service is bad. the service was sold telling device is mine to keep. the phone # given to me was different from caller id seen by receiver of call. when replied to my given, call went to different unknown #. when situation was not resolved, i stopped the service. there was no log of complaint. i was also charged after stopping the service. i was pointed to terms on the web site, which are not told when you sign up with their sales rep (not online). customer service rep would not let me talk to supervisor. also refused to sent me email about what was being done about my issues.

bad mentally, customer is of least importance, customer's money comes first, service ????

i would not recommend this service. their pricing is similar to vonage where service is at-least a satisfaction

    2. I totally agree.. Worst customer service. cancelled this account after they failed to pay me my mail in rebate stating i never sent them correct information. Call quality is worst when calling cellphone .. You will find call drop.. For 15 dollars more Vonage is gazillion times better. I am going back to Vonage.

Advice: You dont care about service only for money : Go for Unovon..

    3. One more person to agree on the customer service. Totally worst service. I just cancelled my service because of their false commitments on number porting and rude customer service. Customer service is not reachable and they don't respond back even if you leave them a message. I'm going back to Vonage. It is definitely better compared to Unovon.

  5. Take a look at it again before you buy this service. You will be in one year contract, first 6 months 14.99 then 22.99, so forget about 14.99 think about you will be paying 22.99 in long run. You can't use it outside US. Compare this Vonage, just $2 extra/month you get more reliable and reputed company service, no restrictions on using outside us also.

  6. If you are thinking about their 11.99 plan for 1000 minutes think it twice before you get into it. They will charge you other $8/month as taxes. You will be paying $20/1000 minutes and you have to use from your home. Instead if you consider Reliance or Airtel you get 1000 minutes under $15.00 and you can use from mobile, and big thing to consider is no contracts.

  10. Did you check out the Freedom plan?
Talked to their sales desk and what they explained is this:
You get 1 unovon device that is connected to your home phone. Then you can configure one additional line which can be your office phone # or cell phone #.
You can use both the lines to make calls at the same time. This seems to be zeroing down on my calling card cost as I can call India from my cell using the same plan that I am using at home.

This is the $24.99/mo + taxes plan (about $8). Requires a 1 yr contract.

  11. Ordered Unovon Unlimited pkg in July , recd the equipment , setup was easy . Got online within minutes . Call quality is good .

Bad : Call disconnects after 1hr due to security reason( as cited by tech support which cannot be modified ). Calls have to be prefixed with 1 for all calls within US . No option for auto prefix thru control panel .

Had issues after 1 week ( line disconnected ) , had to work with tech support to Upgrade firmware with techie knowledge .

Got the connection back , but still the calls to India got disconnected within 3 minutes .

After approx 2 weeks , requested for cancellation and refund of fee . They offered 10% discount on 1 month charges to keep the line .

Sent the device back, awaiting refund .
Not worth the frustration to deal with the issues .

  14. This is regarding UNOVON. I took new connection UNOVON for a month(luckily they offered 30 days money back guarentee). They said that World plan is unlimited, it is not. Once I reached 3000+ minutes to calling to my home country, They are not allowing us to call. Even their service also bad. My experience with UNOVON is very bad. It is your choice, you need cheap price or good quality.

  15. Called the customer support - claimed that Vietnam was removed from free country on July 15, 2010.
No issues faced with calls to India, Bangladesh and China. These are the destinations I call frequently to. Tested USA too.

    Post your experiences here....

  18. I have been using Unovon's World Plan for the past 2+ months and haven't found any issues. I've used 4000-5000 minutes/month and didn't have any issues relating to call quality or call termintation (so far). I am surprised to hear that someone did. I am quite happy with Unovon as of now but am open to switching providers if anyone knows of/can recommend a cheaper VOIP provider/plan.

  20. Please do not purchase this product, it is unpredictable. Looks like they have completely SHUTDOWN the service, no WEBSITE access, NO CUSTOMER ACCESS. REMOVE all your AUTOMATIC payment options to UNOVON.

I trused this so much, these people are F....ed up ...!!!

  21. I've never gone through any such problem and the Customer care team is always available. They charge what they say and no hidden charges. If you have any bad experience, share it so that I can make necessary precautions.

  22. Disconnection fee applies to customers signed up prior to September 15, 2010 only. Read this from UNOVON terms and conditions:

Disconnection and Conversion Fees. For customer signed before September 15, 2010.

Subsequent to the expiration of the Trial Period, if an End User terminates fax or voice Services within twelve (12) months of the initial purchase of the Services, irrespective of the Plan, VCI shall charge a service Disconnection fee of forty nine dollars and ninety nine cents ($49.99) plus the amount of rebate given on the plan for the number of months the service is used at the discounted plan rate. 26. Do not even think of this service. The technical support is horrible....The phone worked for 15 days and stopped working there after ...The customer guys are quite adamant, I was not even able to get back the refund as the trial period expired on the 14th day. There are also clarity issues....BEWARE OF UNOVON

    ReplyDelete
  27. Don't buy this. Go for vonage or alovoi. Plz don't buy unovon. They have Fair usage policy and they will cut the outgoing and telling that u have crossed the limit but is unlimited ;-).

    ReplyDelete
  28. It is a terrible service...guys, they are fraud and if you use little more, they will terminate your service and will also deduct your money for the VoIP receiver...

    ReplyDelete
  29. Unovon is pretty good. The call clarity is better than Vonage. Infact, when I was using Vonage, I got the message that I have crossed the limit though it is unlimited.

I am new to Unovon but it is looking as of now.

    ReplyDelete
  30. So far so good. Lets see. I was terminated by other service providers for fair usage policy. Lets see how UNOVON does. Good part is no Contract...

    ReplyDelete
  31. I have problem with the service I keep getting the message " device not registered" even though my internet is working perfectly fine. Customer support was not of any help. They are not very trained technicians.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Signed up with unovon 3 months back, got a tech issue last week, they resolved it within 5-6 mins of my call. Am very happy with their quality and service. Moreover, they have a very lenient fair usage policy compared to vonage and allvoi - all in all super value for money !

    ReplyDelete
  33. guys,
    Here is my feedback..
    1. I was using it from past one year, had few times technical issues, but it was resolve.
    2. when it comes to money, very bad, they charge in advance every-month as others, but they don't refund the unused days of the month if you decide to cancel.
    3. they are now offering 14.99/month, as an existing customer if i want to get this deal, they are asking 14$ for the conversion.:)..what silly it is, I want to give them the business for year and plus but they think 14$ more than my year+ business.

I wish they understand my concerns.

    Regards

  34. worst service.... after using vonage for 2 years with out any issues I shifted to Unovon becuse of the cost, but this service is horrible .. Planning to shift back

  35. Customer service representatives are worst in this company ,,I dont suggest to have this service from this company...

They are very rude ,becoz the representatives are from Indian Origin ,so they dont know how to handle the calls ,,very rude and misbehaving persons.

Better not to have this service.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Can anyone advise, if the service can be used from outside US?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yes - All that VoIP services need is Internet connection. I think it should work. I had used mine from China and Australia.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I have been using Unovon from the past one year. I have had few issues with call quality and connectivity earlier and all of there were resolved promptly. Their tech support is really good, when compared to Vonage. I had a horrible experience with Vonage earlier and could not get them resolved for 8 months or so....I feel Unovon is far better than Vonage - in call quality, customer care and above all cost wise.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I reached a local rep on their 1-877 number and she helped me adjust my bill start date by more than 30 days. Also, checked if I can use this from out side USA and the response was all you need is a internet conn. No harm trying - no contract, cancel anytime if I am not satisfied.....

    ReplyDelete
  40. Very worst service Iam facing many problem while calling to India..It worked properly for only 10 days after we took the service..

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hey - Use the 14 days return policy. Give it back if not satisfied I say

    ReplyDelete
  42. I had very bad experiences with Unovon.Customer support line never gets connected .I wonder if online customer support ever works.None respond back to your voice messages.I now repent moving from Vonage to Unovon for an low bag offer.

    Bottom Line:
    1.Unovon service Quality is poor.
    2.Customer Support is worst.
    3.Catchy rules.
4.Waste of time trying this service.
5.Your credit card details can't be edited which is an other smart thing when u register with Unovon.

    Advantages:

    Low bag offer...:)

    Thanks!

YOU Cannot switch the Cell phone number.. You can add only one cell phone to the home phone and another number they charge you $5 per month.. THIS IS USELESS.

FOR YOU TO JUST SWITCH THE NUMBER - they charge you a $ everytime you do so..

SO EVEN IF THE SERVICE IS CHEAP initially - THEY HAVE LOTS OF HIDDEN COSTS.. BE VERY CAREFUL BEFORE SWITCHING....

      REALLY BAD BAD SERVICE

  45. I love competiton in the market, we customers are benefited because of this.Have tried vonage in the past, no harm trying unovon. If I don't like the service I'll move on - NO STRINGS ATTACHED :)

  46. I have been very patient and using Unovon for over 8 months now and finally disconnected as there is no improvement.

    Issues:

Voice call quality is pretty bad.

Calls to land lines in small town in india 95% failure. When and if connected, it is not usable. Same landlines work fine with Reliance calling card.

Occasional attempts to fax met with line condition poor failure. Magic Jack works great for same faxes on same FIOS (fiber) internet connection.

Technical support is a joke. No one is reachable and call back never on time, typically few days later, not when needed.

Now, finally customer service is even worst. I was trying to call for 45min with no success yesterday, but for some success today. When I signed up I was told they have promotion at that time and device is free, but shipping is $12. Now, when I try to disconnect, they are so bitter, They do not want to honor the promotion, they want to send the modem back, does not want to send return label either.

I asked them to cancel 5 days after monthly billing cycle, and moved to vonage. Call quality difference is day and night ( I have both active now).

But they were so bitter, they want to screw customer as much as possible and wants charge me for device, shipping and full month billing. Any service,(cable, dish, directTV like example) they send return label. This guys no.

I would avoid these folks like plague.

Bottom line, $10 we think we are saving by using Unovon instead of Vonage is not worth it and combine with customer service, the things gets even worst.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I think they are all the same. Try one, if not satisfied try the other one.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Signed up about a month ago
    pros
    - Quality good (at least to destinations i call)
    - Simple set up (applies to every provider)
    - So far the customer support team has been responsive to queries
    - flat rate until cancellation (no hassle after first 3 or 6 months)

    cons
    - charge for number porting
    - charge for shipping

    ReplyDelete
  49. I call India a lot. I am a customer of Vonage. Get blocked every month. So, I decided to sign up for UNOVON and keep vonage also. My logic is if you are a heavy user - have account with each one of these. They cost you a fraction and offer 3k-4k minutes per service. Save a lot when compared to calling cards. Once all of them block, then I have to resort back to calling cards :-)

  52. Unovon is having a stupid service. Their support is really bad. If you report call drop issue and voice clarity issues. they said their technical team will contact you in 24 hour but you never see a call from them. If you call gain and ask about the status they will say the same thing ... it goes on they never fix the problems.

Please don't opt this service b''cos of cheap the quality is really bad.

    ReplyDelete

    1. THEY ALSO LIE that they have Caller ID - which is not true.. they only have Caller number not the name and its not a complegte ID.

I too am facing calls dropping problems.. Service is not too good...

  53. I called up Vonage and they said I should be checking unovon's service credentials before deciding to move. Now I am re-thinking, after seeing so many negative reviews about unovon. I can always cancel and go back to Vonage. But is it worth?? Not sure.

  55. I will never recommend unovon to anyone. They have really bad service, no professional customer support, they don,t listen complain and not able to resolve issue . I purchased unovon service , whole month I struggled with poor voice quality, no caller id(not able to predict who has called me), and everything customer support replied " I will get back to u ASAP" and put the phone. No complain Id etc. finally I disconnect this service . One more thing, if you disconnect this service, they expect device and accessories to be returned in original packet, no other packet, otherwise they will charge you. Really f#####g service. Cheap plan, but cheap quality and customer support.

  58. A BIG LIE.. UNOVON does not offer a FULL Caller ID feature.. THEY JUST DISPLAY THE CALLING NUMBER not the NAME...

I SIGNED UP AND ALSO SIGNED TO TRANSFER MY NUMBER FROM OLD SERVICE PROVIDER TO UNOVON and now realised that their Caller ID FEATURE is USELESS.

They say caller id on theis site too.. which is misleading and wrong.. THEY ONLY HAVE CALLER NUMBER not the NAME...

THINK BEFORE YOU SIGN UP... You would have to answer every bloody call coming in to your number since Name is not there.... :(

    ReplyDelete
  59. BE very careful before switching to UNOVON...

CALLER ID FEATURE IS A LIE.. they only provide Caller Numbers and not names...

This is a partial caller id and is a lie.. ALSO THEIR WEBSITE SAYS THE SAME. CALLED ID provided but never says that they dont provide Caller's Name.... THIS IS A RIPOFF and a PROBLEM as many robo calls will enroll your number in the directory as soon as you answer it.

UNOVON Should take privacy more seriously.. before giving such service...

  60. Worst customer service, lost the adapter somewhere, UsPS case opened. But still when I asked them to repay my money since I cancelled the account as I did not even receive device, they are saying they only pay money back when they recieve device from usps? Also customer service never care about you, even if you call million times...period. I am glad I got those things, otherwise if I get after starting usage of the service that would be a hell everyday. I would recommend to the people who wants to waste their time and money. I switched back to vonage, great customer service and no hassels eventhough high price, Believe me what yoy pay what you get.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I totally agree..it is the worst customer care service I have ever faced. One of my friend refered me the services so I started UNOVON via phone, they never explained me the return policy in case you disconnect the services. Its a prepay syatem where they do not refund any money, in case u decide to cancel your service. Along with this you have to return their device at your own cost.Very bad call quality while using cell and very old voice interface.I would recomend not to go for the services if you already have a better option.
