Chromecast – Google’s answer to streaming videos and music on TV

Google announced a host of new services and some amazing devices to the technology world. One gadget that caught our attention was the little dongle named Chromecast. Although its not something about making free calls but still it is good to play lot of content on your TV for free from your smart phone. Read on for details.

Chromecast is Google’s answer to Roku and Apple TV. It enables you to stream live videos directly onto the TV. The output resolution is an amazing - 1080p. The device can be plugged into your TV’s HDMI port and resembles just like a usual pen-drive. It can also screen mirror your device, thereby enabling a larger view and better gaming experience. The USP of this device is it is not platform-dependent! Yes, it works well with iOS devices too.

Currently, Chromecast works perfectly well on YouTube and Netflix apps. Also in beta, we have the Chrome app and many others to follow.

What’s in the box?

• Chromecast Dongle
• A extension HDMI cable in case your TV runs out of space at the rear
• An adapter to power the Chromecast

How to get started?

• Plug the Chromecast in the HDMI port of the TV
• Plug the electric brink and turn it on
Configure ChromeCast online to get started
• Open the desired app from the device and select your TV as the output device
• Your existing Wifi seamlessly syncs your device’s content to the TV
• Enjoy music/videos on TV and continue doing other tasks on your device

Before you start streaming your content, update the YouTube and Netflix apps to latest versions.

At just $35, this is certainly the most affordable way to stream content on your TV. However, you still need to have a mobile device or a tablet or maybe a laptop, to start using Chromecast. In case of Roku and Apple TV you need nothing else. But in today’s mobile era, it is a given that everyone has a mobile device by default.

You can expect Google to partner more channels in coming days. We feel Google has left Apple thinking again and this little dongle can do the magic in the world of live streaming.
